PanelistsJean-Marc Chery, Executive VP and CTO, STMicroelectronics Bing Sheu, Director R&D - Design & Technology Platform, TSMC Marko Erman, Senior Vice President and Research & Technology CTO Thales Group BiosJean-Marc CHERY is Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer of STMicroelectronics. His responsibilities include Corporate Technology R&D, the production at ST’s 12” wafer fab in Crolles, and, the Company’s IT and communication systems. He is a member of ST’s Corporate Executive Committee. Jean-Marc Chery began his career in the Quality organization at Matra, the French engineering group. He joined Thomson Semiconducteurs, a predecessor company to STMicroelectronics, in 1986, and held various management positions in front-end production planning, control and operation in Tours, France. In 2001, M. Chery moved to Central Manufacturing as General Manager of ST’s wafer fabs in Rousset, France. In 2005, he led the company-wide restructuring program for 6” front-end wafer manufacturing. In 2006, he took charge of ST’s Front-End Manufacturing and Electrical Wafer Sort operations in Asia Pacific. M. Chery is a member of the European microelectronics R&D programme (CATRENE) Support Group and sits on the Board of Directors of the Science and Engineering Research Council of the Singapore Agency for Science Technology and Research.
He served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems in 1997 & 98, as Founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia in 1998 – 99, as President of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society in 2000, and on Editorial Board of Proceedings of the IEEE during 2008 – 2010. Dr. Sheu is recipient of co-recipient of IEEE Trans. on VLSI Systems Best Paper Award in 1995, IEEE Guillemin-Cauer Award in 1997, IEEE CAS Society Golden Jubilee Award in 2000, IEEE CAS Society Meritorious Service Award in May 2004, and Education Contribution Award from Ministry of Education (Taiwan) in 2006. Dr. Bing Sheu is an IEEE Fellow, and also Honorary Chair Professor at National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan.
After having spent several years managing research activities within Philips, Dr Erman joined Alcatel. In 1993, he become within the Corporate Research Center, the Director of the Opto-electronic components Division of Alcatel, and in 1997, Director of the Optical Systems Department. Simultaneously with this duties, he was also in charge from 1998 to 2001 as Administrator and Executive Director of a common laboratory created by Alcatel and France Telecom. In 2001 he was appointed Chief Technical Officer & Vice President Strategy of Alcatel Optronics. In May 2003, he joined Thales Communications as Director of Research & Technology and than, Vice President, Research and Technology of Land and Joint Systems Division. In April 2009, he has been appointed Thales Group Chief Technical Officer Dr Erman holds 17 patents, has published over 150 papers in international technical journals or major conferences. He gave more than 40 invited talks. Dr Erman has received the “Médaille Blondel” award for his technical & managerial achievement. He is member of the French Academy of Technology
